  • Broadside from circa May 1865 is an illustration titled "The Confederacy in Petticoats." It shows Jefferson Davis dressed in women's clothing, jumping over a fence while being pursued by two Union soldiers. Davis is shown with a knife in his right hand and a piece of luggage on the ground says "J. Davis Mexico." Also present in the illustration is a southern woman who says "Don't Irritate the "President" he might hurt somebody."
