Massimo Salvadori, or Max William Salvadori Paleotti (1908-1992) was a British-Italian historian and anti-Fascist, involved in the anti-Fascist movement in Italy before World War II. Imprisoned from 1931-32 as a result of his political activities, Salvadori fled Italy for Switzerland. In 1943 he joined the British army. As agent of the British Special Operations Executive, Salvadori played a central role in providing weapons supplies for partisan. Promoted to lieutenant colonel in October 1944, in February 1945 he was parachuted and went to Milan with the task to oversee the operations for the liberation of city, where he lived clandestinely since February 1945, exposed to the risk of daily arrest resulting shooting. Immediately after the war he was granted honorary citizenship of Milan and was decorated with with the Military Cross and Distinguished Service Order.
