Broadside regarding the fact that the Constitution of the Italian Republic of December 1947, in its article 1, stated that the Congress could not establish an official religion. This was against the Lateran Treaty, that recognized the principle established in the first Article of the Italian Constitution dated March 4, 1848, according to which the Catholic Apostolic Roman religion is the only State religion. The Lateran Treaty (Trattato del Laterano) was one of the three Lateran Pacts of 1929, agreements made between the Kingdom of Italy and the Holy See. They are named after the Lateran Palace, where they were signed on February 11, 1929. The Italian parliament ratified them on June 7, 1929.
