Circular letter addressed to the inhabitants of Calabria, from the Mayor of Calabria, Pierre-Joseph Briot. Signed in the provincia of Castrovillari on May 16, 1810. Pierre-Joseph Briot (1771-1827) was a French revolutionary and a major political figure. He was a member of the Freemasons of Besançon. During its presence in Calabria, he created a new home of Carbonari. Carbonarism (for Italy) or Carbonari (for France) is an initiatory secret and movement, politically charged, which contributed to the unification of Italy in the mid-nineteenth century.
