  • Letter of Mr. Fraser, of Lovat, on seconding the motion for a Repeal of the Law prohibiting the Highland dress. The Dress Act 1746, which came into force on 1 August 1746, made wearing "the Highland Dress", including tartan or a kilt, illegal in Scotland. On July 1st 1782 Royal assent was given to Repeal of the Act Proscribing the Wearing of Highland Dress.
