Manifesto of the Government of of Montevideo to calm its citizens at the time of the formation of the provisional junta in Buenos Aires. This w happened in the middle of the “May Revolution”. The May Revolution was a week-long series of events that took place from May 18 to 25, 1810, in Buenos Aires, and the ended with the removal of Viceroy Baltasar Hidalgo de Cisneros as a Vicerroy. The May Revolution was a direct reaction to Spain's Peninsular War. When the news that both, the king of Spain and the Junta, were removed of power, arrived in Buenos Aires on May 18. many people thought that Cisneros had no legitimacy to govern.
