Coverage of post Civil War issues such as the elective franchise, paying off the national debt, and the discovery of a woman, Ida Bruce, disguised as a Union soldier. Includes advertisements, and editorials. One editorial discusses the inadequacy of local education for white children, while schools for the blacks are "efficient, flourishing, well organized."
