Summary: Manuscript copy of six reports regarding the apprehension and sale of "a slave named Frank belonging to Wm. Kimble of Davidson County, Tennessee aged 22 years, five feet 6 inches high, bow legged Black, and weight about 140 pounds". Frank was "committed to the jail of said [Warren County] county as a runaway slave on the 5th day of October 1862". Frank was sold to the highest bidder, J.F. Kembley "on the 11th day of May 1863" for "six hundred sixty dollars". Four reports are from the "May term 1864". The earliest is dated from the "April term 1863"; the latest "June 28 1866", which is written in red ink over item dated 1863. The majority of the reports detail credits and accounts read in "open court" related to expenses for the housing, advertisement, and sale of Frank.
William Kimble (or Kemble) cannot be precisely identified as there were multiple people with that name living in Tennessee at that time.
Title devised by cataloger.
Most reports signed by James H. Rose, the clerk for the Warren County Court.
Four reports have red revenue stamps ("Int. Rev. Agreement") with portrait of George Washington and the number 5; initialed "J.H.R [James H. Rose]" and dated.
Formerly known as: Documents relating to the sale of runaway slave, Frank, belonging to William Kimble of Davidson County, Tenn., $105.40, Warren County, Ky.
