Nelson County Court reports related to the re-enslavement of Dick, a self-emancipated child, 1864 June 8 :manuscript copy.

Summary: Copy of Nelson County Court report related to a "runaway slave a negro boy calling himself Dick. He is about 12 years of age, scar on the left eye, copper color, says he is the property of John Rizer and John S. Dixon of Louisville." During the December 1863 term, the County Court "ordered that the sheriff of Nelson County do sell said slave Dick at the Courthouse door in Bards Town Kentucky on the 2nd Monday in January 1864". Dick was advertised in the Frankfurt Commonwealth and appraised by J.F. Queen and A.L. Wilson "at the sum of two hundred & fifty dollars". On January 11th, 1864, J.F. Queen purchased and re-enslaved Dick for "two hundred & sixty-five dollars". A copy of the bill of sale is included.
