Manuscript copy of Warren County Court reports regarding sale of Amanda Adalade, a "runaway slave," "[said] to be the property of Alfred Goodlow of Wilson County, Tennessee." Amanda Adalade was jailed in Warren County, Tennessee, July 27, 1863. On October 26, 1863, having "not been claimed by her owner," Amanda Adalade was ordered to be sold to the highest bidder by Warren County sheriff S.S. Potter in the town of Bowling Green. J.E. Mattingly purchased Amanda Adalade for $360 on twelve month credit with C. Maxwell as security.
Title devised by cataloger.
Rectos of reports have red revenue stamps ("Int. Rev. Agreement") with portrait of George Washington and the number 5; all are initialed in pencil "J.H.R." [that is, James H. Rose] and dated April 8, 1864.
Signed by James H. Rose, the Warren County Clerk and dated April 8, 1864, attesting that the document is "a true copy of the order of the court, including the sale of the slave therein named, and the sheriff's report under said order, also a copy [of] the order approving of the said report."
Former title: Documents relating to the sale of a runaway slave: Amanda Adalade, belonging to Alfred Goodlon of Wilson County, Warren County.
