  • Eight documents (mostly copies) all regarding Jim, who self-emancipated from James Strong of Giles County, Tennessee, was apprehended by James V. Saunders, held in Warren County jail, and enslaved again by C. Maxwell. Jim is described as "about 20 years old, black compliction [sic] ... was on the 14th day of July 1863 committed to the jail." After he was "unclaimed" by James Strong, he was put up for auction by the County, sold for and re-enslaved by C. Maxwell for "two hundred & sixty two dollars."
