Summary: Certificate of freedom issued to Thomas Segin by the court clerk of Powhatan County, Richard F. Graves, confirming that Segin "was this day [July 6, 1863] registered in [Graves's] office, as the law directs, and is of the following description, to wit: about the age of twenty one years, of a bright yellow complexion, about five feet eleven inches high, has a large scar on his left hand where the thumb joins the hand, was born free in the county of Powhatan." The certificate is numbered "894". It is signed by Richard F. Graves.
