Manuscript copy of Warren County Court reports regarding sale of Miranda, a self-emancipated woman, "belonging to Benjamin Farmer of Murfreesborough, Tennessee." Miranda is "aged about 35 years, five feet two inches high, black, and will weigh around 140 pounds." Miranda was jailed in Warren County, Tennessee, October 24, 1862 as a "runaway slave." On May 11, 1863, having been "advertised...as required by law" and "not claimed by her owner," Miranda was ordered to be sold to the highest bidder by Warren County sheriff S.S. Potter in the town of Bowling Green. J.S. Philips purchased Miranda for $105 on twelve month credit with O.P. Johnson, John Petty, and L.P. Arnold as security.

Rectos of reports have red revenue stamps ("Int. Rev. Agreement") with portrait of George Washington and the number 5; all are initialed in pencil "J.H.R." [that is, James H. Rose] and dated April 8, 1864.
