Summary: Copy of a bill of sale for Emilie, "a negresse slave for life ... aged about eighteen years", and her daughter Eve, "aged about three years", sold by Lucien Montegut for "one thousand dollars" to Nathaniel Williamson originally executed on August 2, 1856. Montegut's purchase of Emilie from "Mr. R. Rodrigue" on September 8, 1854 is documented below the current sale. The "vendor" (Lucien Montegut) also "[declares] that he is a married man, that his wife is at present absent from this city, and that he binds and obligates himself to furnish and have annexed to this act a complete and formal renunciation of this said wife of all her rights on said slaves within ten days from the date hereof." Alphonso A. Hoydell, in his personal and professional capacity as a lawyer, further "guarantees the slaves herein".
