Summary: Account from W. Barrow describing an auction he attended in New Orleans where "about 100 were sold, men, women and children" by "J. Beard, auctioneer, March 14th,1851". Barrow found "it a very hard sight the first sale [he] attended as many of [the enslaved persons] would feel so hurt at being separated". Barrow writes that he "will give you an account of the prises [sic] for which they sold yesterday". The account was "received from W. Barrow April 8th, 1851 New Orleans South America".
W. Barrow cannot be precisely identified as there were multiple people with that name in New Orleans during the 1850s.
First date of production based on Barrow's account that he attended the "March 14th, 1851" auction "yesterday".
