The first item is an agreement between H.T. Weatherly, Martin B. Weatherly, William McLintock, and Barnet M. Brown, heirs of Martin Weatherly, to settle a dispute about the "disposition" of three enslaved persons from the deceased Weatherly's estate. "[F]or the sake of peace," H.T. Weatherly agrees to return "a negro slave Viney and her two youngest children Frances and Aaron" to the estate, the heirs agree on a valuation of the family, and agree to sell them to the highest bidder. This item is damaged with loss of text at the bottom. The second item is a bill of sale in which Martin B. Weatherly purchases Viney from the estate for $420. Bill of sale is witnessed by Joseph Washburn. Both documents are dated April 1, 1855 and both are written in the same hand. They appear to be copies as the signatures are in the same hand as the body of the documents.
