2 court documents relating to the sale of Jenny, an enslaved woman, to Henry E. Solomons as part of the settling of the estate of James M. Fitts by his executor James L. Fitts. In the first document Richard James Davant, the commissioner in equity for Beaufort District, approves and confirms the sale of Jenny to Henry E. Solomons for six hundred thirteen dollars, citing a previous court order allowing the sale. The second document is a mortgage obtained by Solomons for four hundred fifty nine dollars and sixty seven cents, plus interest, to purchase Jenny from James L. Fitts. This mortgage was approved by Richard James Davant and witnessed by F.W. Fickling. An addendum registers the mortgage with the state of South Carolina.
The documents are pre-printed forms with blank spaces filled in as appropriate in manuscript.
