Copy of a deed of manumission from "Elizabeth Graham of the District of Georgetown" freeing "the slave Sue and her child Margaret." Elizabeth Graham appoints her son-in-law Thomas Carr as guardian of Sue and Margaret and in anticipation of her death bequeaths Sue $50 from her estate. It is witnessed by Abram Meyers, a Justice of the Quorum for Georgetown District, and 5 "freeholders of the District of Georgetown." In a testimonial on the verso, the same 6 men vouch for Sue's character and her ability to support herself and her child. The original document is dated September 27th, 1815.

Formerly titled: Empancipation of slave woman and daughter: Sue and Margaret, from Elizabeth Graham, Georgetown District, S.C.; also gives the former slaves $50 from her estate.
