Disbound writing book maintained by Mary Hamlin that was later used as a ledger by a different hand. Hamlin used the book to practice her handwriting and to record a story and verse. Verse includes "The Bloody Brother," outlining the death of a young man for murdering his brother; "Of Ohio," regarding the abolition of slavery in the state; untitled verses recounting the drowning of seven young people; and untitled verses concerning finding a marriageable man. The pages of the ledger, dated 1817-1820, are scattered throughout, and feature entries made for sale of general merchandise as well as services such as plowing, reaping, mowing, general work, logging, and splitting rails. Includes several entries for Hamlin family members. There are also a few brief sections for practicing addition and describing the use of integers and proofs.
