A printed form for the Mayor's Court of New-York for certifying free status. In manuscript is described the free status of Thomas Pritchard "a black man ... about forty-five years, and was born at Pasquotank County in the state of North Carolina ... and that the said Thomas became free in or before the year one thousand seven hundred and ninety three."

Certification made, sworn, and marked by Benjamin N. Johnson, of the eighth ward of New York.

Certified and signed by Charles Dickinson, "one of the Aldermen of the City of New York, and a Judge of the Court of Common Pleas, called the Mayor's Court."
