The material is concerned with nullification, state rights, the tariff, the Whig Party, the Mexican War, John C. Calhoun, William Henry Harrison, Martin Van Buren, and other matters. Includes letters of McDuffie's daughter, Mary Singleton (McDuffie) Hampton, pertaining to the settlement of her father's estate (1851). Correspondents include Armistead Burt, Augustus Baldwin Longstreet, and George McDuffie.
