James Calvin Marcom diary : autograph manuscript.

Published diary for 1860, with dates changed by Marcom to 1862-1863, describing his experiences at Camp Holmes near Raleigh, North Carolina, a Confederate training camp, and in a fight at Kinston, North Carolina, in 1862. Entries in the diary concern camp life, especially the securing of supplies and provisions; training of troops; treatment of Union prisoners; and incidents of resistance to Confederate impressment. Several pages are devoted to financial accounts, some dating to 1865, and handwriting practice.

James Calvin Marcom was a Confederate quartermaster at Camp Holmes in Raleigh, North Carolina. He died in Raleigh, North Carolina, his hometown and place of residence, in 1905 at age 78.
