University Archives Web Archive Twitter Collection

The data sets included in this collection were created as part of the University Archives' ongoing work to document Duke University and its community. The publicly available portion of each data set contains only the IDs of the collected tweets, as allowed by Twitter's terms of service. These publicly available tweet IDs may be transformed (or rehydrated) into more complete tweets using the Twitter Developer API. Freely available tools to do so include Twarc, Social Feed Manager, and DocNow. Rehydrating tweets from IDs involves querying Twitter to determine which content may have been deleted or made private since the original harvest.

Complete Twitter data harvested by the University Archives are only available in the Rubenstein Library reading room.

ABSTRACT
The University Archives Web Archives Collection was compiled by University Archives staff beginning in 2010. The majority of the collection are Duke University-affiliated sites, either built on domains owned by the University or on external platforms by affiliated offices, departments, or organizations. Website snapshots include those of administrative offices, academic departments, athletic teams, public relations offices, publications, and student organizations. Also included are some websites related to individual faculty, controversies involving Duke community members, and web content related to student activism.
