From the start, dozens of safety devices keep an around the clock check on the drilling well and highly trained men always keep an eye on the safety devices. Where their eyes can't see, TV cameras are watching for them and sitting on each well are blowout preventers that can quickly close the well if necessary. Once the wells are completed, all the drilling equipment is replaced with high pressure valves called a Christmas tree.
