- Betty, thank you so much for your willingness to be interviewed. I really appreciate it. If you could start by saying your full name. - Betty Kersting. - Thank you. And could you just spell that for us? - K-E-R-S-T-I-N-G - Oh, thank you. And Betty, are you lay or clergy? - I'm a lay person. - And your denomination? - Presbytarian. - Thank you. And Betty, when and where were you born? - I was born in Twin Falls, Idaho on May, the 18th, 1936. - Oh, well thank you. And where did you go to school? - You mean to graduate school? - Yes, sure. - Well, I can talk about college. I went to two years at Church of the Brethren. I grew up in the Church of the Brethren. And then my parents had moved to a new town in Washington State, so I transferred to Whitworth College. And then, from there, I went to San Francisco Theological Seminary. - San Francisco Theological Seminary, interesting. It sounds like something's clicking on the phone or something. Is that yours or mine? Can you tell? - I don't hear any clicking here. - Oh, okay. - Should we try something else? - Let's go a little bit further and see how it goes. I'm curious, if you don't mind my asking, what led you to go to the theological school? To the seminary? - I have always been torn between social work and working in the church. - Okay. - And I decided to go to seminary and I was trying to decide whether I was going to go to the Church of the Brethren or the Presbytarian. - Okay. Betty, I'm sorry. I'm going to interrupt for one second.
