Translator: The only mistreatment they have ever received in Guantanamo was during the Chinese delegation visit in fall of 2002, the days they were there. They were in charge, basically, of the camp, they were doing whatever they wanted to do, they were abusing any kind of rights we had while we were there. So we thought that what they are saying is the truth, actually, how U.S. is going to turn us back to China. So it was the most difficult times, actually, we have faced in Guantanamo. For him, family means everything, for a man, for an Uighur man to protect his family, protect his relatives, is everything. How he trusted the United States, and for he thought, and like all the Uigurs, they felt all this, feel that United States is one and only country in the world that defends democracy and human rights, a country that helps weak people, and the most just country in the world, that then treats everybody equally and do the right thing and all the American values, and all that, he is aware of all that. Therefore, they trusted the United States government. Therefore, they turned all the detailed information about their families, their names, their addresses, and all that. For, when the Chinese delegation came, for U.S. government to turn all that confidential information to the Chinese government, knowing how the Chinese government may retaliate against the families, and putting their families in that jeopardy, that was the worst experience ever for him, especially that kind of high hope he had toward U.S. government and Americans, and that was just turned to zero overnight, he thought that was just the beautiful words, and dreams, and ideas, that they had, the U.S., advertised, and this is not the U.S., and maybe the Americans are the same, they don't protect the weak people, they are no different than the Chinese government, maybe.
