You see people that, that make, make jewelry or clothes for living or, or sell alternative food. I mean, I just liked the whole process in, in, in, interacting or relating to students in general. In more than one instance, people have written, written back to me unsolicited letters saying, now they're in the real world. What a difference the perspectives that we developed in class mean to them. (piano music) (jazz music) (men singing) (orchestra music) (women singing) - Affairs, my mind did lose it. But Demetrius, come. And come Egeus. You shall go with me. (man speaking inaudibly) (audience laughs) - It was like a Kung Fu movie on Sundays. (audience laughs) - How many of ya'll think this isn't working quite yet? Raise your hands if you don't really feel- (audience laughs) (man speaks inaudibly) (hip-hop music) - That sensible people like ourselves here in this auditorium are attracted to money. (audience laughs) Crazy people are attracted to politics, you know. - If you want 15 or $20 more than somebody in Mexico or Malaysia, you gotta be 15 or 30, or 50 times more productive than the worker in Mexico. - Now, I got a great victory in the golf a year ago. It's TV has made us absolutely heartless as Americans did not use to be. Yes, I mean, that made war look like fun. And we were killing these people for entertainment. - A simple story that you can see 100 times, and it's plugged on TV, almost every movie you go see has this same story to it. I call it man in hole, because it's usually about a man or a hole. It goes like this. Somebody gets into trouble, and gets out of it again. (audience laughs) - You are quite correct in analyzing the how, but I'm not sure that you are correct in analyzing what the impact of the how is. My assumption is Michael Dukakis lost the election because he was a lousy candidate. (audience applauds) - Black people should learn as much about what white people do in order to counter racism and to establish justice. I did not think that imitation of racism is any way to go or anything to do with wanting to do so. Counter racism. Find out what happens and counter it with an equal force in the opposite direction. - The ridicule and the mockery of prevention are as much of a staple of Hollywood now as the old westerns once were. God and the Bible have been driven out of the public schools where sex education and condoms are now in for 14 year olds. - Buchanan has got to go. Hey, hey, ho, ho, Pat Buchanan has got to go. You know, you can just do whatever you want. There's just, it doesn't matter what time it is. - Party hard and remember peace. - That's a thanks man. - I am senior and I'm just having a really good time with all my friends. This is the last time that we have together. And that's what, that's the best part about it. - It has been the best four years of my life. I've met lifelong friends, and there's just so much to do that you can't do it all in four years. - Can you believe we picked up the same outfit? - I'm so embarrassed. - It's the greatest place in the whole world. - Duke has been my life for at least four years for me. Some memorable moments, when we came into the frat. - Oh, that's right. Camera Man: Floppy hats. - We get the floppy hats. It was the best. - My most memorable experience at Duke is running naked across the quad and getting my picture in the yearbook for it. - I've met a lot of good friends, I've enjoyed myself, and I've gotten a pretty good education. (calm music) ♪ I see trees of green ♪ ♪ Red roses too ♪ ♪ I see them bloom ♪ ♪ For me and you ♪ ♪ And I think to myself ♪ ♪ What a wonderful world ♪ (applause) - It is my privilege now to ask you to join me in welcoming our commencement speaker, the Founder and President of the Children's Defense Fund, Marian Wright Edelman. (applause) - The ones I remembered most were those who had no formal education and very little money. But who taught us by the special grace of their lives, Christ, and Tolstoy's and Ghandi's of today, and King's Message. The Kingdom of God is in them. They knew instinctively what world a person wrote, and that is you can get all A's and still flunk life. And Godspeed to you as you go out into the world to serve. Thank you. Interviewer: Why are you so happy? - Because we are getting outta here. I love this place, but it's time for me to go. I've overstayed my welcome. Interviewer: What are you gonna do? - Sleep a little bit, not do homework, that's the main thing, I think. Interviewer: And when people say, what do you think about Duke, how was your college career? You gonna think about the studying? - No, not studying. Just fun, just like people and basketball, and basketball, and what else? Interviewer: What do you think your son has gained most from being at Duke? - Good tan, and, and a jump shot. - Well, I'm leaving with a degree, thank God. And it's a great place. I'm not sure exactly what I'm going to be doing, but it's a great place. - Well, we're ready to leave our legacy here at Duke university, and we're proud of what we've done here in our four years. I just think it's a better place on the whole. We're pretty sad. In fact, we're probably going to cry tomorrow when we leave. - It's like, take a look around the campus. We were just remarking on how good it looks, and we took it for granted all these four years. Interviewer: Why are you so happy? You're leaving Duke. - Because we're naked, look. - Well, now that we're graduating, we can all go to Disney World, or go to Kroger's and get cheap beer. - So what are you feeling in this moment? I mean, what are your emotions on leaving Duke? - Raw fear. - I think the friends that I've made here, I'll cherish them forever. It's cheesy, but that's really, it's true. - Duke is leaving me with a legacy that I accomplished something. That I went to kegs a lot, but I had a great Myrtle, a great other Myrtle, and two other great Myrtles. Four great tournaments. Oh, God. A legacy lasts a lifetime.
